Voters across the political spectrum are united in tending to view discussion of Labour’s recent history as a tedious distraction, new PoliticsHome research reveals.
Following the renewed speculation on the controversies that surrounded new Labour’s years in power, prompted by the publication of Peter Mandelson’s memoirs, PoliticsHome took the views of 1,037 voters on how interested they were in the discussion and how important it was to the current political debate.
A 55 per cent majority found the continuing discussion ‘uninteresting’, with over a third (thirty five per cent) finding it ‘very uninteresting’. This view was shared by supporters of all parties and none.
Voters across the political spectrum also shared a tendency to view the analysis of Labour’s past as a distraction from the current political situation.
Thirty nine per cent of people held this view, compared to less than a quarter (twenty one per cent) who believed that this discussion was an important step toward understanding the current political situation.
PoliticsHome interviewed 1,037 voters by email from 14-16 July 2010. Results are weighted by age, gender and political party identification to reflect the population of Great Britain.
