The recent Wikileaks revelations have been underwhelming, according to a majority of the UK’s political community – but on balance, there is also a tendency to see the controversial website as a good thing.
Those are the results of PoliticsHome’s unique survey of insider and informed political opinion, which assesses the views of several hundred people working professionally in Westminster (including MPs, political editors, party officers and public affairs experts) alongside informed voters across the country.
Some 72% of political insiders, along with 62% of observers, believe that the Wikileaks revelations were underwhelming (12% and 18% respectively found them ‘very underwhelming’).
Just 16% of insiders, and 25% of observers, found the revelations shocking.
Have you tended to find the Wikileaks revelations:
On balance, however, there was a tendency among panellists to see Wikileaks as a good thing. Some 46% of Westminster insiders, and 48% of observers, saw the website as a good thing – compared to 33% and 26% who saw it as a bad thing.
Overall, do you think that Wikileaks is a good thing or a bad thing?
PoliticsHome interviewed 212 people professionally involved in politics and 780 people across the country from 3-7 December 2010. Results are weighted so as to ensure a politically balanced result.
