The Mili Streak

Way back in the mists of time, there was a popular ITV drama called The Mallen Streak. This Catherine Cookson classic told the story of Thomas Mallen, the Squire of High Banks Hall, who wasted his fortune and fathered a string of illegitimate children - each marked with a flash of snowy white hair.

I was reminded of this gripping tale when Mark Wallace rightly seized on the mystery of Ed Miliband's own disappearing grey streak.

At his press conference today (see below), the Labour leader appeared to have lost the painting-the-ceiling splodge of white that normally adorns his bonce (see above).

I had to ask Team Miliband the inevitable question*: is it Grecian 2000 or Just for Men?

Like a true pro, his spokesman gave a deadpan reply:

"No, he does not dye his hair. He had a haircut recently and the grey is less visible. After careful checking, I'm confident the grey bit is still there."

*FOOTNOTE: This all reminds me of the great fun we had in the Lobby years ago when Gordon Brown was Chancellor. Under certain lights, he looked as though he had lost his grey hair. Sadly, there was no Grecian back then either. The ex-PM does have flecks of grey now, but maybe that's the cares of office...

Award winning cutting edge political analysis. the Mili bro's need gravitas. Their youthful appearance is a handicap. Extending that: they do not accept themeselves as they are and by definition they are not going to accept the country's identity as it....and hence at some stage will flounder - in their ambitions to be No. 1. Castle - In attempting to demean another (under the guise of objectivity) you reveal the critical opinion you have of yourself.
