Met under fire over NoW contacts

The Metropolitan Police Authority has just been handed a list of meetings between senior Met officers - including Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson - and senior execs at the News of the World.

Of course, it's perfectly normal that top cops and newspaper editors and execs meet up for dinners now and again.

But with the Met inquiry into phone hacking ongoing during some of this period, it's causing a poltical row.

Lib Dem MPA member Dee Doocey says:

"I find it quite extraordinary that when allegations about illegal phone hacking relating to the News of the World were still unresolved that the Met Commissioner thought it was appropriate to be regularly dining with the News of the World and News Corporation.  Imagine the outcry there would be if the Commissioner was seen dining with a member of the public who was the subject of a police investigation.

"I will be raising this issue at the MPA Full Authority meeting on Thursday".

Today's note follows an agreement by acting Commissioner Tim Godwin to let the MPA have all the details.
Here's the full note of the meetings.
