Coogan's run

Steve Coogan was in the gallery at PMQs today as a guest of Team Miliband.

A Labour supporter, Coogan wasn't researching any particular project (unlike Meryl Streep recently) and was merely curious to see the weekly dust-up for himself, I'm told.

As an ex-boyf of TV journo-turned-Labour frontbencher Gloria de Piero, Coogan is certainly part of the Labour celeb set. He'll be a guest on the Commons Terrace later.

I'm told that Coogan's dad is a Lib Dem member and activist in Middleton, so maybe he has an interesting take on the Lib-Con Coalition: and a possible Lib-Lab pact for future?

Coogan was treated to a classic bout today at least. Ed Balls' jibes at Cameron after he bungled his answer to Heidi Alexander - "you're not briefed! why don't you just say you'll write to her?!" - got under the PM's skin in a way few of us have seen before. Cameron recovered well to jibe back at Miliband, but it didn't look pretty for him to lose his temper.

It's almost as if the PM was as thin-skinned as a certain...Alan Partridge.

All of which is a great excuse to repeat this classic clip, where Alan handles a hot political debate with impeccable impartiality.

(For the connoisseurs among you, note that the Labour candidate is none other than Rebecca Front..who later became The Thick of It's wonderfully dotty minister Nicola Murray)

Enjoy.

UPDATE: I hear Gloria brought actor David Morrissey around the House last week too. Some are already suggesting it's all part of a 'de-dorking' tactic to make Ed look more cool.

If you missed it, I'd recommend Coogan and Rob Brydon's The Trip too. Here's their different takes on Michael Caine.

It just shows that even comic talent (and not that much talent if you look at his last outing) can be thick when it comes to politics.

Terry Coogan has stood as a council candidate on loads of occasions.

Sandra

A Ferrari driving socialist - now that is a new twist. What planet is Coogan on - associating with fiscal lunatics & political extremists like Miliband & Balls? Coogan is aware of the role they have played in ruining the financial futures of the yet unborn British taxpayers?

SRN

"What planet is Coogan on"

Planet Luvvie!

Do you really think any of the luvvie brigade live on the same planet as normal people?

Most celebs are drink and drug-addled cloud-cuckoo land dwellers who very deliberately detach themselves from everyone else's reality.

And Frank skinner is another lefty luvvie who drives around London in his Lambourghini. Most of the hypocritical brigade of anti-thatch '80s stand-ups, are doing voiceovers for Banks these days.

And what exactly is wrong with being left wing and rich? Coogan has stated that he is a socialist and enjoys paying taxes. He wants to make money so he can live a nice life but also contribute more taxes, nothing wrong with that.

Actually, I'm a socialist too and would love to earn a lot of money. There are no rules saying socialists can only earn up to this amount etc, Socialism is not a religion

You're hardly going to de-dork Ed Miliband by having a comedian who hasn't been funny for over a decade hanging round him.

Noooo David Morrissey can't be Labour! I'm heartbroken.

Be briefed for £1 a week...
