Guardian readers look away: the Mail heads for world domination

The Daily Mail's sales fell 2% over the last year, a much smaller drop than some of its competitors, but it's the paper's online performance which has really impressed. In an online media landscape dominated by Search Engine Optimisation and high-profile takeovers by AOL, the Mail - using perhaps less obvious tactics - has become the world’s second largest newspaper website. Guardian readers across the country will surely be tutting at the news made worst by the fact their own paper once led social media innovation with live blogging. The only website with more visitors than MailOnline is the New York Times, but, with the paper having recently introduced a paywall, Paul Dacre must surely be dreaming of world domination.
