OK, the Lib Dem President didn't exactly say that today. But let's be honest, no one would be surprised if he had.
In fact, Farron did say that Thatcherism was a form of "organised wickedness" and oversaw a period of "sustained slavery".
As the effective conscience of the Lib Dems' northern lefty wing, he knows that this kind of thing goes down well north of Watford Gap. Southerners may be horrified by the language, but I suspect that northerners won't bat an eyelid.
I have to say I remember Farron saying something very, very similar on the BBC (the Daily Politics I think) a while back last year. I was struck at the time at how Farron refused to back down and revelled in the attacks on Thatcher's alleged 'evil' intent.
ConHome's Tim Montgomerie points out that this hyperbole smacks of raw panic as the Tories' Coalition partners face disastrous setbacks in northern cities from Newcastle to Sheffield.
Yet I would also refer you to this warning from the Labour candidate who ran against Farron in Cumbria last year. Jonathan Todd told Labour Uncut that Farron was ruthlessly effective at persuading Labour voters that he was on their side.
It's tougher to sound left-wing 12 months into a Lib-Con Government. But it looks like Farron will still keep on trying.

I saw the comments, and whilst i'm not normally the first person to leap to Thatcher's defence i think what he said was hyperbole to the nth degree, verging on the downright offensive. Not to mention that a lot of what he said was historicaly suspect.
