MPs have never been too shy to take the limelight on kids’s telly. Shailesh Vara went as far as to win a Blue Peter badge for displaying his kick-ass Tae Kwon Do moves on the popular television show.
Fans of Play School will recognise kids’ TV veteran Baroness Floella Benjamin sitting in the House of Lords. She teamed up with Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes last month to promote children’s’ television in Parliament.
Jo Swinson’s eyes are not glued to the screen however. She’s concerned that female lead characters are far too “pink and princessy”. She wants more female role models on the box who will inspire the little ‘uns to become doctors and nurses.
Dot imagines Jo’s words are to prevent girls growing up and behaving in this collar-loosening manner.
