David Blunkett was left a bit red-faced last night after he had to call back Radio 4 to correct himself on education policy.
The former Militant Tendency council leader turned ultra-Blairite Home Secretary told the Today programme that Horse Care wasn't available as a qualification for under 16s.
But as he spoke, the Today team were engulfed by a torrent of emails and phonecalls from parents with children taking the qualification.
Not only was the course definitely available, but it was also seen as very valuable, said presenter John Humphreys, citing “hundreds of emails” from listeners.
Half an hour later Humphreys told bemused listeners that Mr Blunkett had called in to apologise, apparently having said: "Whoops, sorry about that - that'll teach me."
