Parliament's fountain shoots back into life

Barry Sheerman and Sir Peter Bottomley will be pleased. In December, they tabled an EDM calling for the beautiful fountain in New Palace Yard to be switched back on. Built in 1977 to celebrate the Queen's silver jubilee, it was shut off in 2008 after a scare about contaminated water. After weeks of repairs it is up and running. No doubt the Commons authorities wanted it in working order ahead of Her Majesty's visit to Westminster Hall in March, when she will hear loyal addresses celebrating her 60th anniversary as monarch and receive her latest gift from MPs and peers, a stained glass window.
