Labour and Tories mourn deaths of peers

Two former MPs who were senior figures in the Conservative and Labour parties have died. Lord Carr of Hadley was a liberal Tory who served a controversial term as Employment Secretary. In 1971 he escaped injury when the Angry Brigade anarchist group exploded two bombs outside his house. He was later Home Secretary. He took a seat in the Lords in 1976 and died on Friday aged 95. Robin Corbett was opposition spokesman on Home Affairs from 1979 to 1992 under Michael Foot and Neil Kinnock and later chaired the Home Affairs Select Committee and led the Labour group of peer in the Upper House. He died yesterday at the age of 78. Ed Miliband said he was "a good and principled man who will be greatly missed in Westminster".
