Caroline Flint: Energy companies must clean up their act

Caroline Flint MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, has called on the energy giants to clean up their act, after shocking figures uncovered by Labour revealed that five of the big six energy firms are under investigation by the regulator Ofgem for poor customer service, mis-selling, and dodgy pricing – with three subject to multiple probes.

Caroline Flint MP said:

"Energy companies must not be allowed to think they can get away with
whatever they want at the expense of everybody else. After years of poor
customer service, mis-selling and dodgy pricing people will not be
surprised that five out of six of the energy giants are under probe.
Energy companies need to know that if they fail to clean up their act
there will be a price to pay.

"When families are facing soaring energy bills and the big energy firms
are enjoying bumper profits, OFGEM must come down hard on any abuses by
the energy giants, and the Government must get tough on spiralling bills."
