Commenting on Cardinal Keith O’Brien’s criticism of the UK government’s policies the SNP’s Westminster Treasury spokesperson, Stewart Hosie MP, said
“The Cardinal is right to speak out and criticise the UK Government, and we support his concern for the poor in society.
“The SNP Government are doing everything possible within current devolved powers to protect people from the impact of Westminster cuts – the most recent being protection for over half a million vulnerable people who would see their Council Tax Benefit cut by the UK Government.
“The Tobin Tax needs global agreement to work, and instead of dismissing it the UK government should be advocating it internationally. If agreement could be found it would be a good thing for mobilising funds to tackle poverty on a global scale.”
