Harriet Harman: PM has broken ministerial code over Hunt

On BBC Sunday Politics Harriet Harman said:

“It’s already evident that Jeremy Hunt has breached the Ministerial Code. The Ministerial Code says that a secretary of state mustn’t mislead Parliament. He has. He said on March 3 that he had published all the exchanges between his department, the Department of Culture, and News Corp.

“And evidently he hadn’t published all those exchanges because he’s now offering to do so some months later.

“I think it’s evident that not only has he breached the Ministerial Code in many, many ways, but even more seriously than that, when he was responsible for acting quasi-judicially on a hugely takeover bid of £8bn, he did not act impartially.

“Furthermore the Ministerial Code says that if a matter warrants further investigation in the view of the Prime Minister then he will refer it to the independent adviser. He doesn’t have the discretion to say somebody else can look at it. So the Prime Minister himself is now breaching the Ministerial Code.”
