UKIP has firmly denied reports that one of its candidates burnt a picture of Brian Paddick in Soho today.
A UKIP spokeswoman told PoliticsHome the person burning the picture was “not a UKIP candidate, it’s not even a UKIP member”. Instead she claimed it was a gay man who was disillusioned with the Liberal Democrats.
The spokeswoman insisted: “We don’t approve of the photograph of anyone being burnt. We certainly don’t have any problem with anyone’s sexuality because we’re a libertarian party.”
A UKIP representative tweeted the photo earlier today while campaigning ahead of tomorrow's elections, but it is understood he posted the picture before he noticed the burning photograph.
