Stephen Twigg response to David Cameron announcement on parenting classes

Labour press release

Stephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on David Cameron’s announcement on parenting classes, said:

“This Tory led Government has hit families with children hard.

“They removed the funding ring-fence for Sure Start children’s centres and thousands are having to reduce services.

“They have slashed the budget for play schemes, with many councils cutting back play services.

“And they have cut tax credits, meaning an average family with children is now £511 worse off.

“While we will look at new proposals with an open mind, it is important that there is solid evidence for them working in practice.

“Most importantly, any new scheme must be able to reach a wide range of parents from different backgrounds and provide real value for money."
