New MP pays tribute to Mensch - and Rosie

Andy Sawford, the new MP for Corby, made a well-received maiden speech in the Commons this afternoon. In keeping with tradition, he praised his predecessor. "Louise Mensch served as Corby's MP in her own unique style," he said. "She was proud to be a vocal woman MP, speaking up for women in public life. She played an important role on the culture, media and sport committee, particularly on matters to do with the role of the media." He added: "She was also known as an advocate of social media." There were titters from MPs at the end of the speech when Mr Sawford thanked Labour Chief Whip Rosie Winterton "for the warm welcome". "Make the most of it!" one Labour MP commented.
