Labour press release
Labour today pledged cross party cooperation to change the rules of Royal succession to give female children the same rights as males.
Sadiq Khan MP, Labour's Shadow Justice Secretary, said:
“It is fantastic news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their first child.
“It’s only right that we rectify the historical anomaly that prevents the eldest child of the monarch from becoming the Head of State simply because of their gender.
“Labour will co-operate with the Government to ensure that legislation on reforming our laws of Royal succession is in place as speedily as possible.”
