Labour press release
Tom Watson MP, Labour Party Deputy Chair and Campaign Coordinator, responding to reports that letters between Jimmy Savile and Margaret Thatcher from the 1980s, which have been made public, have been censored, said:
"It is incomprehensible that letters from Jimmy Savile to Margaret Thatcher have been censored by the Government. I don't believe it is in the public interest for Ministers to withhold this information and ask that David Cameron reconsiders this decision. Savile was an
intelligent, manipulative figure. For us to understand how he got away with his crimes, we need to know how he operated. Greater transparency will lessenthe likelihood of another Savile-like scandal happening again."
