He may have been dead for more than 24 years, but some MPs still have a soft spot for broadcaster and horticulturalist Percy Thrower. Britain's first celebrity gardener, who gained national fame on Gardener's World, has been honoured with an EDM. Tabled by Daniel Kawczynski, it notes that 30 January 2013 marks what would have been Thrower's 100th birthday and praises his broadcasting work, "recognises his contribution to public life through the part he played in the Dig for Victory campaign and as a special constable in the Second World War, and congratulates the Shropshire Horticultural Society for continuing his legacy through the Percy Thrower Trust and its bursaries given to young horticulturists".
