Martha Lane Fox made a peer

Entrepreneur and businesswoman Martha Lane Fox is to become a member of the House of Lords, it has been announced. The co-founder of the internet travel and leisure business lastminute.com "was one of the pioneers of ecommerce in the United Kingdom", according to the House of Lords Appointments Commission. She will sit on the crossbenches and will take the title "Baroness Lane Fox of Soho". In 2010 David Cameron appointed her the UK Digital Champion with a remit to encourage as many people as possible to go online. Michael Berkeley has also been made a crossbench peer. The eminent composer and broadcaster is described as "a passionate advocate for the arts and, in particular, contemporary music and music education".
