Scotland’s deficit is likely to be £3bn higher than Holyrood’s estimates if Scots vote for independence, the Treasury has claimed. The department says that by 2016/17 the deficit would be 5.3%, in line with other forecasts, compared to the 3.2% forecast in the white paper for independence.
