While the battleground between the Conservatives and Lib Dems in the South West tends to be rural, elsewhere in the country it is more often well-heeled middle class suburbia, places like South West London, or the affluent suburbs of Greater Manchester and Sheffield.
While the Conservatives are making modest advances against the Liberal Democrats in the South West, here the Lib Dems are holding their own, with the swing to the Conservatives only enough for them to reclaim Solihull (already notionally Conservative on the new boundaries). As in the South West though, local factors are important, and individual seats maywell buck the trend.
