Ignoring accusations made in Tony Blair's memoirs, Gordon Brown has issued a statement announcing his "priorities for the future", which include setting up an official office to promote charitable projects involving him and his wife Sarah. He is to become convenor of the Global Campaign for Education and board member of Tim Berners Lee's World Wide Web Foundation as part of his new responsiblities. A statement said: "Each of these positions are pro bono and Mr Brown will not accept any remuneration."
US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has opened Middle East peace talks with Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu. It is the first direct talks between Israel and Palestine in nearly two years.

Tory peer Lord Tebbit has criticised foreign secretary William Hague over his actions which led to the resignation of special adviser Christopher Myers. A spokesman for David Cameron said the prime minister "100%" supports Mr Hague over the allegations.
