The Labour party has announced in full the new appointments to the shadow front benches. Newly elected MPs Rachel Reeves, Johnny Reynolds, Tom Greatrex, Luciana Berger and Gloria De Piero have been given junior positions. Longer serving MPs including failed Labour leadership contender Diane Abbott, Wayne David, Andy Slaughter, Karen Buck and Alison Sebeck have also been given roles. Chuka Umunna and Anne McGuire have been appointed as private parliamentary secretaries (PPS) to new Labour leader Ed Miliband. Some notable omissions from the list include Ben Bradshaw, David Lammy, Tom Harris and Pat McFadden who all stood for shadow cabinet positions.

Labour MPs Tom Watson and Michael Dugher have accused David Cameron of evading questions after the prime minister has yet to give details to parliament of his meetings with executives at Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. Mr Dugher said: "The prime minister promised transparency yet all we have had is evasion".
