Flynn meets Chief Whip over ambassador comments

Paul Flynn has met Labour's Chief Whip Rosie Winterton to discuss comments he made about Britain's ambassador to Israel. Flynn had said that ambassadors to Israel had not been Jewish before "to avoid the accusation that they had gone native" and that Britain needed someone who couldn't be "accused of Jewish loyalty". Matthew Gould, the first Jewish ambassador to Israel, was appointed in September 2010.

Sir George Young, the Leader of the House, speaking this morning said: "The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is an equal opportunity employer – it would be inconceivable that they would apply any sort of prejudice... in deciding who should be our ambassador."

Labour MP Paul Flynn, who headed an investigation into the swine flu for the Council of Europe, has attacked the World Health Organisation over "the pandemic that never was". Mr Flynn accuses the World Health Organisation of having "cried wolf" for the benefit of pharmaceutical companies who could profit from selling preventative drugs.
