Lords reform will end radical PMs

A ministerial aide threatening to quit over the Lords Reform Bill has said there would never be a "genuinely radical" government after the changes. Conor Burns, PPS to the Northern Ireland Secretary Owen Paterson, told the Guardian: "It would probably prevent another Attlee or another Thatcher government because you would have a permanent blocking minority in it. It would prevent another genuinely radical, restorative government for Britain."

Craig Whittaker, the Tory MP who sits on the Commons’ education committee, has called for an inquiry into claims shadow home secretary Ed Balls gave £600,000 of taxpayers’ money to a project based at the football club he supports. Conor Burns, Tory MP for Bournemouth West, also voiced concern.
