Labour has called for a review into the effect of street lighting cuts on women's safety. They say several local councils have reduced their lighting or turned it off altogether to help reduce spending in the wake of swingeing budget cuts. Shadow Home Affairs minister Stella Creasy said: "David Cameron’s Government doesn’t seem to care that women working shifts, or returning from an evening out, could be being put at risk as they walk home in the dark"

She added "it’s not just people being frightened on the streets late at night walking around... but people that are just looking outside and feeling frightened in their own homes."
