Public Health Minister Anne Milton has caused a row after implying that northerners’ personal failings have left them with high rates of smoking, alcoholism and STDs. The Conservative MP was criticised by Labour’s Chi Onwurah who said that poor health indicators were often a result of poverty and that the minister's attitudes were "insulting".
