The 'big six' energy firms face accusations of profiteering after analysis carried out by the Guardian showed that they have been taking advantage of spikes in the wholesale price of electricity to pass on much longer-term increases to householders. Labour MP John Robertson said that the news was "appalling" and hit out at the regulator Ofgem, who he said could "not have moved slower on the issue".
The failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament by Guy Fawkes deserves to be "properly commemorated", Labour MP John Robertson has said. Mr Robertson wants public access to be granted to a plaque in the Parliamentyary estate which commemorates the event, which he believes at the moment "is not an adequate way to properly commemorate such an important moment in our country's history".
