Planning permissions for new housing dropped in the latter half of 2010 to numbers described as “alarming” by the Home Builders Federation. The Government removed Labour’s regional housing targets soon after May’s election, replacing them with an economic incentive which oversee new housebuilding. Alison Seabeck, Labour’s Shadow Housing Minister, said the Coalition’s planning policies had been “ill thought through”.
