Reform to adoption system

Red tape for foster carers and adopters is to be slashed in major reforms to the system.

Children's Minister Edward Timpson pledged to scrap "pointless" paperwork that restricted every day tasks for carers and to end delays caused by agencies unable to share records.

Schools could get cash for children in care

Downing Street is considering a proposal to grant £1,000 in extra funding to schools for every child in care who they teach.

The aim is to improve the educational achievements of children in care, which lag far below the national average, the Times reports.

The plan, which would cost about £40 million, is among the key recommendations of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
