Ireland confirms loan deal
Irish prime minister Brian Cowen has announced he will dissolve parliament in the new year after the implementation of a financial rescue plan has been secured. Mr Cowan said he will remain in office to oversee the ongoing bailout negotiations and pass the budget in December defying calls for him to resign. Earlier George Osborne detailed Britain’s contribution to the Irish bailout, claiming it was in the UK's national interest to support Ireland in “its time of need”.
