Coulson resigns

Coulson resigns
David Cameron said he felt Andy Coulson had been "punished for the same offence twice" and dismissed suggestions by Ed Miliband that the affair raised questions about his judgement.

Mr Miliband criticised Mr Coulson for not resigning earlier as the Prime Minister's Director of Communications, saying: "He's now done the right thing but he should have done it earlier... I think it raises real questions about David Cameron’s judgement that he hung on to Andy Coulson for so long.”

Mr Coulson had been under fire for months over allegations of phonehacking at the News of the World under his editorship. David Cameron said in a statement: "Andy has told me that the focus on him was impeding his ability to do his job and was starting to prove a distraction for the Government." Mr Cameron was told of the resignation on Wednesday, according to reports. Former No 10 media chief Alastair Campbell has said the spotlight "will move straight from [Andy] Coulson's situation to [David] Cameron's judgement".

His position was untenable, his fingerprints all over the NoW's disgraceful behaviour. But Cameron will just appoint another stooge or someone as bad as Coulson, it makes little difference. Of course it shows Camerons lack of judgement, but has none to start with.

I am intrigued by this defence Cameron gives Coulson & the fact that nobody picks-up on it! In his (Cameron's) insistence that Coulson deserves a 'second chance' --- presumes he (Coulson) transgressed on his first outing! Now as nobody concedes Coulson has erred --- don't we deserve an explanation! Otherwise this poor unfortunate is being moved on from job to job (& in a recession!) without adequate justification!
