Govt loses green deal vote
The Government has lost a vote on an apprenticeships programme which would form part of its flagship Green Deal energy efficiency initiative.
An amendment, tabled by shadow climate change minister Luciana Berger, was passed in the public bill committee examining the bill this evening. It states that the Government will report to parliament on proposals for an apprenticeships scheme within the Green Deal.
Ministers had been set to vote against the amendment, but instead abstained, allowing it to pass.
Ms Berger said: "Low-carbon companies will be crucial in driving growth in the UK economy and with the Government tripling tuition fees, apprenticeships will be an attractive route into a skilled job for many young people."
