Labour MPs and peers warn Miliband

Labour MPs and peers warn Miliband
A leading adviser to Ed Miliband has warned that the Labour leadership is drawn from "too narrow a group" of Oxbridge graduates.

Lord Glasman, who frequently attends debates and advisory sessions at Mr Miliband's home, told the Labour Diversity Fund website: "One of the crucial problems we have as a party is that we have brought our leadership in from much too narrow a group. Basically Oxbridge graduates, in particular economics graduates, politics graduates, social scientists and lawyers."

As Mr Miliband published his New Year message, he also received warnings from one of his shadow ministers that Labour risks being cast by the Conservatives as a party of tax and spending. In a paper for think tank Policy Network, Shadow Pensions Minister Gregg McClymont also warned that Mr Miliband could face the same fate as former Labour leaders Michael Foot and Neil Kinnock.

Mr McClymont wrote in the essay: "A patriotic appeal to the nation to improve growth and living standards, not a simple defence of the public sector and public spending, is crucial to foiling Conservative attempts to render Labour the party of a sectional minority."

Today Mr Miliband used his New Year message to promise that Labour would "rise to the challenge" during 2012. The Labour leader also attacked Coalition rhetoric, saying people should not be persuaded that "in hard times, nothing can be done", and argued that his party needed to convince the public that "optimism can defeat despair".

He also came under attack from the Conservatives, with John Glen arguing that his judgement in accepting a donation reported to be around £1m from Andrew Rosenfeld was "highly questionable". In a letter to all Labour MPs, Mr Glen wrote: "Are you happy that Ed Miliband has given a key strategic role to and is willing to accept large donations from someone who falls foul of his flagship producer / predator test?"

Oh dear a last desperate plea from a fatally wounded animal. Still time to get it back on track with someone new? It funny isn't it how the unions lost their backbone just as there votes lost labour it's backbone - they are both fast becoming irrelevant. He reminds me of that person you saw struggling to open a door putting lot of effort into pulling at the door until exhausted he gives up and curses the door just as someone walks past and nonchelantly pushes it open and walks through - no wonder the unions liked him enough to let the labour party disown and weaken them. Politics is made for people whith courage and clear thinking to stride forth not for those who dither and believe the harder they pull the more likely the door is to open for them. 2012 is going to be a decisive year for both Labour and the unions, their actions (or rather lack of them) in the next few months will lead to a change in their fortunes or their complete rejection by those they set out to represent. Lets see if the Tories have an open door to walk through by 2013 - I fear, for the majority of British families, they will. Not because of their own actions but because of the ineptitude and sheer political vacuousness of the Labour Party, the Unions and, most of all, the Liberal Democrat Party spending their energies pulling on that door.

Mizar

Oppositions don't win, governments lose.  It is just the simple fact that the coalition will fall apart and will lose because of their stupidity, incompetence, and lies.  Milliband will walk into No 10 - and what a relief that will be.
