Cameron backs Lansley
The Prime Minister has backed Health Secretary Andrew Lansley following reports of negative briefings from Number 10.
Responding to reports that Downing Street sources want Mr Lansley to be sacked, a Number 10 spokeswoman said this morning: “The Prime Minister backs Andrew Lansley and backs the reforms we are pushing through Parliament.”
One newspaper report this morning quoted a Downing Street source saying: “Andrew Lansley should be taken out and shot. He’s messed up both the communication and the substance of the policy”.
Labour's Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham said the NHS is "on a knife edge" and it "can't afford to have a lame-duck Secretary of State in charge who does not have authority and the personal support of the Prime Minister."
