Brokenshire to visit Jordan

Brokenshire to visit Jordan
Home Office Minister James Brokenshire is to visit Jordan to discuss the deportation of radical Islamist cleric Abu Qatada.

Earlier David Cameron said the Government was doing "everything it can" to deport Qatada.

Addressing MPs at Prime Minister's Questions, David Cameron echoed the words of Home Secretary Theresa May, saying: "The situation with Abu Qatada is completely unacceptable...it is not acceptable that we end up with a situation you have someone in your country that threatens to do you harm that you cannot try, you cannot detain and you cannot deport."

Writing in the Sun today, Home Secretary Ms May said the Government was looking at "all legal options" to overturn the ECHR's decision that Abu Qatada could not be deported to Jordan.

The Government has also been told its extradition arrangements with the US are "out of kilter". A letter signed by several peers and MPs in today's Daily Telegraph calls for the Coalition to produce legislation for reforming the arrangements over the next Parliament.

The intervention comes as the European Court of Human Rights prepares to hear appeals from six terror suspects, including the radical Muslim preacher Abu Hamza, against their extraditions to the United States.
