Labour considers MP mayor ban
Labour is considering stopping MPs from resigning to stand in regional elections for mayoralties and police commissioner posts.
Following the shock defeat by George Galloway in Bradford West, the party leadership is said to be concerned about the potential for a series of costly by-elections diverting resources away from targeting key seats later in this Parliament.
The calls are reported to have the support of the Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman, as well as figures in the Labour whip's office.
Two Labour MPs - Liam Byrne and Gisela Stuart - have said they will seek the nomination to be Birmingham's first elected mayor.
