UKIP 'not a single issue party'

UKIP 'not a single issue party'
UKIP must not be seen as a single issue party, Lord Pearson stressed at the party's spring conference. He outlined UKIP policies on immigration and the economy, saying the EU adversely affected both. UKIP will not stand against "genuinely" eurosceptic MPs, he said.

The trouble is not with the the bulk of the conservatives who are sensibly eurosceptic. The trouble is with Cameron and his mates who worship at the feet of Blair. A hung parliament will kill Cameron, at least politically, and so will allow the conservatives to ditch Blair-son. UKIP seems to be the only way forward.

The trouble is that they are a single-issue party. I spoken to long-standing members at length, and they really aren't interested in actually doing anything, merely spouting about the EU and how people would be able to do things better if we weren't in the EU. Even those standing in council elections have the same attitude: they have absolutely no interest in doing a real councillor's work. I know: I've very carefully meticulously questioned them on this, inviting and encouraging them to put in some effort – but the strong impression I get from them is that they consider themselves above such things. The evidence of experience over the years bears this out: not once has any of them ever done anything in respect of a local issue here, and I gather it's much the same elsewhere. No wonder Lord Pearson (having come from a real activist party) seems to be so embarrassed about UKIP that he has first offered to disband the party (how's that for "conviction"?) and now doesn't want UKIP to stand in some places. Shouldn't it be up to the electorate to decide whether they want to vote UKIP, not have that choice taken away from them? UKIP never seem to "get it"!
