Speaker accused of 'rigging' expenses watchdog
The Speaker of the House of Commons has been accused of attempting to rig appointments to the independent MPs' expenses watchdog.
The Telegraph reports the Speaker, John Bercow, put a former MP and ally on the panel which selects the board of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
IPSA is due to appoint new members after four quit as a result of the dispute, and chairman Sir Ian Kennedy said the changes risk exposing the watchdog to "political influence".
