UK 'needs secret trials' - ex-MI5 chief
A former head of MI5 has announced her support for secret trials under the Justice and Security Bill, claiming the Government is being forced to settle civil claims that have not been scrutinised by judges. "At the moment there is no justice at all in civil cases where individuals sue the Government for compensation claiming, say, mistreatment,” Baroness Manningham-Buller writes in the Times. The proposals in the Justice and Security Bill would allow closed trials in civil cases where sensitive security-related material was involved.
