Synod votes against women bishops

Synod votes against women bishops
The Church of England's general synod has voted against allowing the appointment of women as bishops.

Supporters of the legislation had said they were quietly confident the bill will be approved, but the motion failed to meet the required two-thirds majority amongst each of the synod's three houses: bishops, clergy and laity.

An new vote on women bishops may take several years to return to the synod.
