Hague sets out Palestine stance
William Hague has said the UK is set to abstain in a key vote on whether the Palestinians should be given upgraded diplomatic status at the United Nations.
The Foreign Secretary made the announcement today in a statement to MPs the day after France announced its backing for Palestinian recognition.
He said that in order for the UK to vote for the resolution "the Palestinians should indicate a clear commitment to return immediately to negotiations without preconditions".
The Foreign Secretary added: "This commitment is indispensable to us.".
Meanwhile writing for Central Lobby, Lib Dem peer Baroness Tonge criticises the UK’s stance on Palestine, saying the Government has “failed utterly to protect those most in need”.
