PM sees EU opportunity
The burgeoning eurozone banking union will lead to a “multi-faceted” EU which provides opportunities for the UK to change its relationship with Europe, according to David Cameron.
The Prime Minister was speaking after a summit of European leaders, where a centralised supervisory body ostensibly capable of overruling eurozone national regulators was agreed.
Mr Cameron said the exemptions granted to non-eurozone nations were an example of how the UK could renegotiate its relationship with Europe, David Cameron has said.
“What you’ll see is a growth of this multi-faceted Europe and I don’t think it’s something we should be frightened of at all, I think we should be very confident.”
Earlier today, the President of the European Central Bank said the banking union must go further, to give the EU powers to wind-up failing banks.
