Queen to attend Cabinet

Queen to attend Cabinet
The Queen will tomorrow become the first Monarch since Queen Victoria to attend Cabinet, Downing Street has revealed.

To mark her Diamond Jubilee, Her Majesty will attend Cabinet "as an observer", though No.10 said she would be "likely" to speak.

The Cabinet will also present the Queen with a gift, with equal contributions made by each minister towards its purchase, Number 10 said.

The No.10 spokesperson added that the Queen would attend for 30 minutes, rather than the full 90 minutes length of the Cabinet meeting.

Speaking on the Daily Politics, former Home Secretary Lord Reid said "I think we might get some useful contributions for a change if she's involved."
