West faces 'generational struggle' - PM
The West is facing a “generational struggle” against extreme Islamist terrorists, the Prime Minister warned today.
The Prime Minister refused to rule out military action and said he would look again at funding for the UK's intelligence, diplomatic and military effort.
Mr Cameron insisted that he was 'not seeking' a combat role for British troops in Mali but suggested a wider military response in North Africa remained on the table.
He revealed that 'tens not hundreds' of UK troops may be sent to help train Malian forces
As he updated MPs on the situation in Algeria where three Britons have been killed, he called for an international response posed by Islamic extremism, which deems mass murder “not only acceptable but necessary”, and compared the threat to previous challenges facing the UK.
“This is the work that our generation faces, and we must demonstrate the same resolve and sense of purpose as previous generations have with the challenges that they’ve faced in this House and in this country,” he told the Commons.
