Osborne rejects austerity rethink
George Osborne has rebuffed calls for a slowdown in austerity, insisting the UK will "carry on with the cuts".
IMF chief economic Olivier Blanchard this morning urged the Chancellor to "take stock" and reassess the UK's economic strategy.
But speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Mr Osborne said the Treasury had a "credible debt reduction plan" and would not be turning back.
"We do have to carry on with the cuts. We're not about to bring that programme to an end," he said.
"It will go on until 2017. We are walking a difficult road but we are going in the right direction."
