OFT rules out petrol probe

OFT rules out petrol probe
The Office of Fair Trading has ruled out a full-scale inquiry into competition in the petrol industry.

A report today concluded the market in the UK was working well, though it did find that prices at service stations were too high.

The OFT dismissed the idea that retailers were not passing on drops in the wholesale price of oil to consumers at the pump.

The report comes after Energy minister Baroness Verma yesterday told peers petrol companies were ripping off motorists through price fixing at the pump.
