Labour calls for Gove probe
Labour has urged the Cabinet Secretary to investigate reports of a smear campaign by two of Michael Gove’s advisers.
The Observer named Dominic Cummings and Henry de Zoete as potentially contributing to the @toryeducation Twitter account which has criticised political opponents and journalists.
Mr Gove’s Labour counterpart Stephen Twigg has written to Sir Jeremy Heywood to warn the ministerial code may have been breached “on several occasions”.
The Department for Education has also come under fire from former Tory children’s minister Tim Loughton, who was described by one DfE source as “lazy” and “incompetent”.
“It brings the Department for Education into disrepute, so I think very quickly they need to clear that up and if they’ve got qualms against me, then let’s put it on the record,” Mr Loughton told Sky News’ Murnaghan programme.
